    So much Bisqueware!

So many of my things have gotten fired and I am incredibly pumped to glaze them. I need to improve my glazing skills but seeing them makes me so happy. I tried throwing some pieces recently as well, and it turns out its a little like riding a bike. I am in the process of glazing.

  • Sweet and Slow

    Sweet and Slow

This week has been sweet and slow. Sweet in interactions and creativity and slow in the snow.

I finished crocheting that skirt! Originally it was a top but I was luckily able to figure something else out(:

Byron took beautiful pictures of the dancers at Balboa night on Monday. I love how cute dancing feet are. I love feeling movement in photography– its inviting.

    Testing

Unfortunately my cockatrice was still in the kiln when I went to class on Tuesday. However, the rest of my test tiles came out, along with a mug from previous session! I am super pleased but still trying to understand shrinkage. It is difficult to visualize 30%.

I have now updated Fully Fired as well!

The cockatrice is ready to get bisqued.

    I am so PUMPED

I also thrifted some incredible items

This sweater has quickly become the perfect dog walking throw-on.

  • Test Tiles and Grog and Wings

Test Tiles and Grog and Wings

I am working on making test tiles with the 1 minute challenges from two weeks ago. Time for the kiln!

He has eyebrows and eyes and two little wings (there is no way he is flight worthy, do NOT tell him).

Learning wise: We started talking grog. A good rule of thumb is 20-30% grog for a sculpture piece and typically about 50% for tile pieces (2 part clay: 1 part grog).

Grog helps to create less shrinkage by allowing less stretch. This occurs since there is less clay in between the grog particles.

I hope to test out making some cute outlet covers with more grog to have a flatter and more accurate piece.

  • Day 2

    Day 2

It can be difficult to find inspiration. However, my friends are always willing to pitch me an idea.

    Cockatrice.

  • Day 1

    Day 1

    1.6.25

3 sections of 5 one minute sculptures

    section one: get loose

section two: make 5 based off of what your class voted on

section three: choose someone else’s piece to be inspired by for the next 5

I kept a few of them as test tiles.
