My name is Danielle Ayon,
and I work as a bartender at a bookstore. I graduated from Willamette University with a Bachelors in Data Science and Psychology. This blend of Psychology and Data Science is drawn from my interest in human interaction and curiosities that can be displayed with data extrapolations.
In Psychology, my main focus was more sociological. How people interacted, but more so how individuals with characteristics like Narcissism with diagnoses like Depression and Anxiety operate in the real world.
Data science is applicable to Psychology because it requires a scientific study, data collection and analysis. I want to live in this intersection of data that shows facts and offers a psychological background as to the big
“Why?”
At Willamette, a replacement to a thesis was a ‘Capstone Project,’ this essentially required students to write a study or at least back up why they think their study matters and could possibly hold water in a specific area. Therefore, multiple students would be in a class for capstone under a topic, like ‘Personality Psychology.’
My capstones respectively for Psychology and Data Science were ‘HEXACO Personality Traits Moderated by Individuals Who are Goal Oriented with Psychopathy’ and ‘Understanding the Missingness of Minority Household Data in the Annual American Community Survey.’ For Psychology, I used HEXACO traits ( honesty-humility, emotionality, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience) as parameters for those who ranked highly in psychopathy and compared those to individuals who were goal-oriented. For Data Science I was able to work under a professor regarding the discrepancies in census data and creating visualizations for whys and ways of accounting for this missingness like with jitter, etc. Thus, I used my experience with Python, and Rstudio and statistics to understand these separate categories.
Why do I currently bartend?
I have been acclimating. I live on the opposite side of the country from my family and I needed to first understand what the community and daily life was like in this new area of my life. I have met incredible friends. I have received support from a community that barely knew me. I have begun to set down roots. Now, I would like to get into my psychological research, or at least stretch my analytical muscles with a data science position analyzing data that feels important.
I have since led a team and managed, websites, social medias, keeping records, placing orders and licenses.
I am ready for my next phase of life.
